Wallasey Yacht Club

Founded as “The Magazine Sailing Club” in 1903 we moved to our premises in Hope Street in 1912 Some nine years later we became known as Wallasey Yacht Club. The building is now very different from the one we moved into so many years ago. Our members have transformed the premises over the years building and refurbishing workshops, storage yard and a clubhouse of which we are rightly proud,

To us, more importantly are the boats we sail. Our boats, known as “Seabird Half Raters” are most often seen moored in the River Mersey near to where the Pier once stood. Our members race these classic boats throughout the summer months before taking them ashore in September.

The objectives of the club are to provide and maintain the clubhouse, promote sailing and to encourage the development of boat building. The last of which possibly should read boat repairing as we have an active section who sail regularly on the Marine Lake at New Brighton in a variety of dinghies. The Monday Nighters as they are known often seem to seek help to repair damage done by their over zealous sailing

This year we have been spreading our wings further. Committing ourselves to creating links with New Brighton and running local events such as a photographic competition. Our next sailing event will be in conjunction with West Cheshire Sailing Club on Boxing Day when they will host “The Christmas Pudding Race” on the New Brighton Marine Lake
