The Wirral Waterfront Partnership ....was created in late 2000 and will operate
until March 2007. The Partnership is engaged in implementing a
comprehensive regeneration strategy for Wirral's waterfront from
Eastham to New Brighton. To this end it is harnessing funding
available from both SRB6 and Europe and is building upon the work
already carried out by SRB rounds 1, 2 and 3.
The main task for the partnership will be to match the opportunities created in Wirral with need so that the benefit of economic growth can be made available to communities experiencing disadvantage and social exclusion. WWP has taken an ambitious and innovative approach to tackling regeneration through three distinct but interlinked initiatives. Programme A: Birkenhead Neighbourhood Promote a community-led approach to deliver participation and involvement in order to ensure that Birkenhead Pathways' residents are able to access the jobs and opportunities created by Wirral Waterfront in an area that has previously had no SRB support. Programme B: Employment An access to employment programme targeted at the most excluded and focusing on lone parents, young people who have fallen out of the education system and individuals with special needs. Programme C: Promoting Economic Opportunities Targeted at the employment corridor from Eastham to New Brighton and providing the principal focus for economic development and employment creation for all Wirral residents. As the area with the greatest potential for economic improvement this programme has been designated within the European Objective One programme as the Strategic Improvement Area for Wirral. Wirral Waterfront's Vision We will work together to secure a vibrant, competitive and job rich economy which will be firmly based on the Waterfront's past strengths but also exploit new and sustainable opportunities. These jobs will be accessible to all Wirral's residents through practical support for the most severely excluded and through a programme building on the skills and abilities of the Birkenhead community. The community will work closely with all partners to devise workable solutions n how to link needs and opportunities, thereby ensuring that a decent quality of life can be enjoyed by all. |
