Reclaim Our QuarryQuarry Recreation Ground, situated at the corner of Mount Pleasant Road and Rake Lane, is a well-used little park. The Crown Green Bowling Club always welcomes new members. Their season starts in April and continues up until September. Youngsters no longer play football on the bowling-green (fingers crossed!) The all weather sports pitch continues to be a popular facility for young people during the day. During dark evenings they tend to meet in the gatehouse, where there is a light. The area is also served occasionally by the Contact-a-bus, a part of the Wallasey Young People's Project. Youth Workers are on hand to give friendly advice when required. Because this part of New Brighton is surrounded by tightly packed housing, young families really appreciate the children's playground and swings. A local clock repairer is working on the old clock mechanism and one fine day we might see it working again. Watch this space?.. Our thanks must go to the gardeners for keeping the park neat throughout the year. But - there is still an ongoing nuisance of sewage seepage by the manhole cover. The Friends group is hoping that the utility company will sort the problem out. We suspect it is caused by the main drain in Sutton Road. There is talk that the New Brighton Festival will take place in the Quarry next summer as a multicultural event. Tell us what you think. Contact Chair/Secretary Therese Irving | |
