Vale Park
The role of the park has changed over the years. In the beginning, with its formal flower beds and 'Keep off the Grass' attitude, the park was something to gaze at, something to admire. While some formal elements remain, today the park works harder as a community resource. There's a children's play area, a five-a-side pitch, and a BBQ site. The bandstand, while still used as a brass-band venue, also hosts less formal rock concerts and talent shows. Locals schools use the park for orienteering and nature lessons. Vale House, once housing park staff and then lying semi-derelict, has now become a community centre, used by local colleges and community groups. The value of the park has been recognised not just by the council but also by Wallasey residents who have formed the The Friends of Vale Park. The friends raise money to support the park, organise talks on local history, wildlife, etc and produce a regular park newsletter. Become a friend.
