March 2007

Floral Pavilion

The curtain comes down on New Brighton's beloved Floral Pavilion theatre at the start of April - but only for an extended interval!

When it rises again in Autumn 2008 the spotlight will very much be on the results of a multi-mil lion pound refurbishment programme that is being carried out on the grand old lady in the meantime .

Aside from the refurbishment of the theatre - a resort landmark for nearly 100 years - the complex itself is also set to expand to incorporate cafes and function and conference facilities.

The Floral Pavilion closes its doors on April 1st with the 'KEN DODD HAPPINESS SHOW' which, as anyone who has seen Doddy in action will affirm, you'd be a fool to miss.

Other shows lined up to help the current theatre bow out in style include performances from singer JOE LONGTHORNE on March 10th, soul legend ALEXANDER O'NEAL on the 18th, BIG NIGHT OUT' ...a Radio Merseyside variety show...... on the 30th and a fabulous dance production 'SPIRIT OF BROADWAY' from the producers of Spirit of the Dance' which has played at the Floral on numerous occasions.

The North Wallasey Catholic Community

"For some time now the Bishop and Trustees of the RC Diocese of Shrewsbury have been engaged in a process designed to help parishes plan for the future over the next 20 years. Recently in the St Hilary's Deanery we have seen the refurbishment of St Alban's church and the re-ordering of St Joseph's Seacombe to provide social and liturgical facilities for the Parish. English Martyrs Church has also been refurbished to provide access for the St Mary's College to use the space and facilities in the Church.
The Trustees are now to look at the buildings of Ss Peter & Paul's Parish with a view to providing the parish with suitable liturgical and social facilities for future years. An Option Paper has been prepared and is available on the web site at nwallaseyrc.org."

Adventure Island Is going to be the biggest, toughest and most exciting game show for CBBC. We are looking to follow the progress of a group of young adventurers as they take on a series of mental and physical, larger than life challenges.

For the kids lucky enough to take part it will be a 100 per cent, genuinely life-enhancing experie nce. To be whisked off to the other side of the world to form a team with a bunch of total strange rs, with whom you have to bond and work together in the most thrilling kids' game show ever made, is definitely the stuff of dreams.

You must be in year 7 to 9 at school and be available to be filmed abroad during July and August 2007.

If you think you have got what it takes and enjoy physical and mental challenges than please log o n to our website and apply now.

Do you remember the Tower fire? Was your street bombed during the war? Do you know where Liscard and Poulton station was? Is this really Leasowe Road?
